How Does Metabolized Fat Exit the Body?

  1.

    Liver

    • Your liver has many jobs, but metabolizing fat, protein and carbohydrates is one of them. Your liver, when functioning properly, is responsible for breaking down fat for the body to use as fuel or eliminate as waste. It is also responsible for storing fat, and will do this if too many calories are consumed or if it's not well-hydrated.

    Fat for Energy

    • Your body uses calories for fuel, but when the calories from recently ingested food are used up or eliminated through waste, the body then starts to tap into stored fat for energy. This is the theory behind weight loss through calorie reduction and expenditure---making your body break down stored fat in order to lose weight.

    Exiting the Body

    • When fat is metabolized, it is either used by the body as fuel, or eliminated as waste through defecation and urination. Your liver makes the ultimate decision, but you can encourage fat metabolizing through consistent exercise and watching your daily calorie intake.
